Timing Control (T-CON) LCD TV

Generally, data output of the mainboard on TV/LCD Monitor has a level LVDS (Low-voltage Differential Signaling) data series. The word differential means paired data between pluses and minuses. LVDS technology makes it possible to transmit data with a high transfer rate. As more and more pairs/couples then faster transfer speed. Some kind of configuration cable LVDS LCD TV on, among other things:

  • 6 bit Single Channel, consisting of 1 plug the cable's Clock and 3 pairs of Data cable (ClkP, ClkN, Rx0P, Rx0N, Rx1P, Rx1N, Rx2P, Rx2N).
  • 6 bit Dual Channel, consisting of 1 plug the cable Clock 1 plug the cable even, odd Clock, 3 pairs of even-numbered data cable, 3 pairs of odd data cable (OClkP, OClkN, ORx0P, ORx0N, ORx1P, ORx1N, ORx2P, ORx2N, EClkP, EClkN, ERx0P, ERx0N, ERx1P, ERx1N, ERx2P, ERx2N).
  • 8 bit Single Channel, consisting of 1 plug the cable CLK and 4 pairs of Data cable (ClkP, ClkN, Rx0P, Rx0N, Rx1P, Rx1N, Rx2P, Rx2N, Rx3P, Rx3N).
  • 8-bit Dual Channel, consisting of 1 plug the Clock even, 1 pair of odd Clock, 4 data pairs even and 4 pairs of odd data (OClkP, OClkN, ORx0P, ORx0N, ORx1P, ORx1N, ORx2P, ORx2N, ORx3P, ORx3N, EClkP, EClkN, ERx0P, ERx0N, ERx1P, ERx1N, ERx2P, ERx2N, ERx3P, ERx3N).
  • 10 bit Single Channel.
  • 10 bit Dual Channel. And others.
O and E above stands for Odd and Even (odd and even). LVDS technology is the development of LAN cable that consists of 4 cables namely TxP (white-green), TxN (green), RxP (blue white) and RxN (blue) arranged in pairs (one pair of twisted, consisting of 2 cables). With such an arrangement, the transfer rate on the LAN reach speeds of 100Mbps fairly easily realized when open with wire with a diameter of 0.5 mm twisted with certain rules (sorry no writers discussed here about the advantages of the cable is twisted).

While the format of the data that is sent from the mainboard/LCD Monitor/TV controller is Normal LVDS and JEIDA. On the TCON, common facilities to change the format of the receipt of the data, or Normal JEIDA LVDS (read datasheet panel/screen for more details).

The function of the TCON is received then translates the image data from the CPU result be digital RGB image data sent through LVDS. Digital RGB image data is then translated into pixel data consists of:
  1. The data line (ROW) and the data columns (COLUMN) RGB (LVDATA-RGB).
  2. Signal-signal/pulse-pulse synchronization control consisting of STV (vertical/blanking/erase), OE (output enable), CPV (clock) and others. Data synchronization is made to control ic-ic drivers on the panel/screen so the image can be displayed/painted just right.
  3. Data color table from the list of reference taking greyscale (is generally stored in eeprom), the result is a Gamma voltage.
  4. Other control signals, e.g. power supply control panel, blanking, test patern and others.
To be able to work, the TCON must have a clock. Most of the TCON LVDS clock out of use, there is also a clock that has its own generator. TCON also use RAM to buffer data while decoding process. Damage to the RAM on a TCON cause interference with the signals generated by the TCON even failed TCON work itself (stuck).

Because the TCON is "picture maker" or the controller clock/time, then it should be with speed and accuracy is quite high. When there is a data error or an error of translation (decoding) then the picture can appear or not appear random, spotted, torn, color flaw, no exact coordinates are pikxels and others.

In summary, the TCON produces important signals to display images to the matrix, matrix controller/drivers at once. TCON blocks in general are equipped with circuit power supply DC to DC voltage supply that provides for panel and TCON itself (discussion of this other side of power supply).

The data line is the data that is sent to the driver or row is often referred to as the gate drivers. While the column data is data that is sent to the driver or the column is often referred to as data drivers. Data column data in the form of the RGB data is terdekode greyscale/gamma so that the LCD can display color images. Greyscale color reference scale is made up of colors from white to black, split a few steps/step. One voltage gamma, represents a color scale of greyscale. For instance, the color produced by the black and white CRT are greyscale.

The photo above is of the LCD TCON block damage, data and signals from the T-CON is experiencing interference, so that the image folded (sliding) due to loss of synchronization, so also the color gets damaged/not normal.
